We have a lot of doctors in many specialties. Almost all of them are native, and received their training in Vietnam. We would not mind to get expat doctors, but we can’t afford paying them. Only a few of our doctors can speak other language than Vietnamese. Unfortunately, we don’t employ interpreters to help non-Vietnamese patients to communicate with our doctors. Most of our doctors work part time and many of them are professors. Professors are supposed to be better than the rest, but this is not the case here. Vietnamese professors don’t know medicine better than regular doctors. In fact they know it as poorly as the rest and sometimes even worse, because due to their age they have lost interest in keeping up with innovations long time ago. Still, having a professor title gives them an authority to dictate other doctors how to treat their patients.
